Witness one of a kind Architecture at Keladi Rameshwara Temple
Karnataka can be referred to as the town of temples, with its own unique style of architecture. The rich heritage of the state reflects the enormous influence of Pandyas, Cheras, Cholas, and Pallavas. One such amazing piece of art is the Keladi Rameshwara temple. The town was once ruled by Nayakas, a part of the Vijayanagara empire. The temple is an extraordinary example of the marvelous Dravidian style of architecture. Chowdappa Nayaka who had built the temple, strategically placed every brick and tile to give rise to this awe-inspiring piece of work.
The entrance is elegant, on either side are wooden pillars that have intricate detailing on them, supporting the tiled roof. The structures within the temple portray several Gods from Hindu Mythology, floral motifs like lotus and leaves, and well other articles that are required from “Puja” or worshipping. There are temples dedicated to Parvati, Rameshwara, and Veerabhadra within the main complex of Keladi Rameshwara temple. Within every individual temple has different designs, styles of carving, and architecture. Structures of majestic creatures like lions, horses, tigers, and elephants can be found on the walls of the temples as well as structures of mythical creatures like “Garura” and “Bherunda.”
The temple has stood the test of time, carrying within itself knowledge of the past and inspiration for the future. Undeniably, the emperors that ruled the region over different ages have heavily impacted all the religious structures and temples. Artisans from different eras have poured their knowledge of architecture into these monuments and temples. Karnataka is a land of temples and the Keladi Rameshwarą temple is among the common ones. Mainly dedicated to Shiva and Parvati, the temple has been a place of tourist attraction for numerous years. The people of Keladi have done an excellent job at preserving and maintaining this piece of fine architecture.
